Closing the women’s health gap in Switzerland: what the new McKinsey report says

McKinsey has just released a new report on women’s health, this time focused specifically on Switzerland. The previous edition, with the World Economic Forum, looked at the global picture. Here are the key points.

Key figures

  • Swiss women spend about 30% more time in poor health than men.
  • Closing the gap would mean around 8 more healthy days per woman per year, and more than CHF 7 billion in annual GDP by 2040.
  • Women are diagnosed on average 4 years later than men, across more than 700 diseases.
  • Gynaecological conditions and PMS rank among the conditions with the highest economic impact.

Count women

The report’s first recommendation is to “count women”. You cannot fix what you do not measure. Too many studies still do not analyse their results by sex, and too many conditions that affect women are still poorly documented.

Why it matters to us

This is exactly why we built Red drop LAB.: to turn menstrual blood into a source of information, not a topic to avoid. Women’s health is not a niche. It is a public health and economic priority.
